Deepest Sympathy

We are all saddened by the loss of a good friend and colleague, Bill Turner, who passed away Saturday, November 21st. Bill and Kay have always been wonderful supporters of carvers, clubs and competition events wherever they are and, in fact, they ran the Buckhorn Carving Competition the forerunner of the Kawartha Carving Competition of for eleven years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bill and Kay’s home (59 Parkdale Avenue, Peterborough, ON K9L 1K5) on Saturday, December 5th from 1 until 4 p.m. It is the family’s wishes that a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

We all will miss Bill and our thoughts and prayers are with Kay and the family.

Message From the Chair

One never knows what to expect from year-to-year. Last year saw a dramatic increase in entries and this year we saw a decline. While entries were down, the judges commented that they thought the quality of carvings was better than in the past. We experimented with combining some categories and that seemed to work well although our experience with grouping categories with few entries was less satisfying. In fact, next year we will leave it open to the committee to split categories if we find an excessive number of entries in a category.

We have changed the qualifying definitions for Novice, Intermediate and Open to allow carvers to stay longer in each of those Classes. See Class Definitions

We had less club participation this year and that is disappointing. Club support is critical to a successful event and we encourage clubs to reserve next year’s date and book a table. Thank you to all who participated and volunteered this year. We appreciate your support.

If you as a club, vender or supplier of carving equipment would like to reserve a table, simply click on the link to the left for a printable table application form and return it to us along with the fee no later than August 1, 2016. Tables will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Fees are listed on the form.

We have one confirmed Purchase Award, so watch the website for any additions.

We look forward to seeing you on September 10, 2016.
